About

Ten Bag Press was born in the back blocks of Victoria’s rugged but beautiful Mallee region.

Established in 2010 by journalist and author Adam McNicol, who grew up on a wheat and sheep farm just south of the iconic town of Manangatang, Ten Bag Press has become one of the leading publishers of high-end photographic books that celebrate Australia.

Our best-selling books include The Mallee: A journey through north-west Victoria and The Wimmera: A journey through western Victoria.

Ten Bag Press is named after the description of a Mallee wheat crop Adam often heard when growing up. A ten bag crop is a one that yields ten bags of grain per acre.

A classic Mallee conversation might go like this:

"How's your wheat going, Jack?"

"Not bad. She'll be a ten bag crop, I reckon."

Our first project was Manangatang, a book published to celebrate the town’s centenary in 2011.

Since then, we have produced a range of publications for the book trade and a number of books for corporate clients including Great Southern Bank (formerly CUA) and the Quilpie Shire in outback Queensland.

Our books have featured the work of some of Australia’s greatest documentary photographers, including Andrew Chapman, Noel Butcher, Melanie Faith Dove, Jaime Murcia, Erin Jonasson and David Callow.

We have also been very fortunate to work with leading book designers Phil Campbell and Anna Wolf.

Each of us loves exploring Australia and celebrating Australian places, people and stories.
